Things to Do in Belize

Regent Street & Southern Foreshore Walk – Picturesque Southern Foreshore with its lovely colonial houses is steeped in history. A minute away from the Hotel it is a breezy walk to the Belize City Swing Bridge and to see the endless activity in the area and especially the dozens of sailboats and then see the Supreme Court, the Governor’s former residence and the 200 yr-old Anglican cathedral on Regent Street. (1.5hrs)

The Museum of Belize – Walk/visit to the Belize Museum to see Belize’s Natural History and Cultural Treasures. (2hrs)

Travelers Rum Museum – Take a taxi to the Travelers Rum Museum and see how we make rum while sampling several different locally-made alcoholic beverages. (2hrs)

An independent gallery and cultural center with changing exhibitions and a small book shop. Probably the best place in Belize to learn about contemporary local art. Free parking across the street in a secure parking lot. (2hrs)

The Bliss Institute – Located on the Southern Foreshore – see what’s playing and we can buy tickets for you! Choose from Comedy shows, Concerts, Plays, Dance recitals, etc. (Time varies)

Old Belize – Mile 5 George Price Highway, Belize City. Old Belize is a landmark attraction, offering a total Belize experience for locals and tourists. At its heart is the Old Belize Exhibit, a stirring, large as life, cultural and historical display taking visitors back in time to various defining segments of Belize’s past, with authentic relics from key periods, a haunting introductory teaser to the Mayan legacy in Belize, an eerie depiction of the Belize City of Colonial days, an intimate glimpse into 18th century logging camps, and more. Old Belize also features the only beach in Belize City, the Old Belize Marina, a full service restaurant, plus conference facilities and banquet hall.

Island Getaway – Take a Water Taxi to Caye Caulker or San Pedro to swim with Sharks and Rays, Snorkel patch reefs, view manatees and feed the tarpons.

Lamanai – Go on a River Tour at the Mayan Temple located in the Orange Walk District.

Food

It is a food-lover’s paradise. Tapping into Belizean culture means tasting it. With a uniquely Caribbean and Central American identity shaped by several cultures, including Kriol (Creole), Maya, Garifuna, Mestizo, Mennonites, East Indian, and Chinese, the flavours here are just as diverse as the landscapes.

Entertainment

The Bliss Centre for the Performing Arts is a busy little complex that is the cultural heart of Belize City, the Bliss Centre houses a performing arts space, rehearsal halls, a cafeteria, the National Institute of the Arts, and a couple of gallery spaces. If there are live theatre, dance, and music performances while you’re in town they’ll most likely be here. It also occasionally hosts worthwhile exhibits of art or photography. The main building’s circular design takes advantage of the complex’s setting, with large picture windows overlooking the Belize Harbour.

If you like dancing, there are several nightclubs that go until the wee hours on the weekends.

If you are in the City for business, One South Place hotel is centrally positioned in the heart of Belize City’s downtown and commercial business area and is close to everything – including banks, lawyers and shopping.
